Norwegian Facility Management Network

NfN was established in 1992, and has since 1993 conducted annual benchmarking processes amongst the members.
Initially the processes covered mainly CRE management but are now extended to include a broader span of FM, such as key workplace support services.

In the following you can read about NfN's activities, constitution of the Board and about administrative support.

NfN - Norwegian Facility Management Network
Highlights benchmarking

One of the most prominent activities is the annual registration of key figures/KPIs from the members'CRE and workplace support functions and a benchmarking conference where the key figures/KPIs are presented and discussed.

Theme conferences and excursions

4-6 theme conferences per year cover important professional issues. These issues are often identified in the annual benchmarking conference and cover topics critical to successful Facility Management.
Many of these meetings are combined with excursions to interesting development projects.

Networking groups

The activities also highlight a number of professional networking groups where the practitioners can exchange experiences in work processes and dig deeper into their key figures.
Other important objectives in these groups are facilitating bilateral benchmarking and enhancing the development of internal benchmarking routines within the member corporations and bodies.

Education and research

NfN keeps close relations with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and other relevant educational institutions in order to influence and sustain professional development.
At present NfN supports financially and by project participation the development of a Master course in RE and Facility Management at NTNU ("Metamorfose 2005").
Since 2008 NfN awards an annual scholarship of NOK 10 000,- to a FM Master student by nomination of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. In 2008 it was awarded to Master student in Eiendomsutvikling og -forvaltning/FM Jorun Iren Husby, Basale, after having submitted an excellent paper on fire protection in buildings.

NfN will continue to offer a similar annual award.

Membership

The members represent CRE and FM top management in a majority of leading Norwegian national and multinational companies as well as in major international petroleum producers and petroleum service companies.

It has been a NfN policy to keep the number of member companies within certain limits in order to better enhance and facilitate close membership relations and to focus on quality in benchmarking key performance and work processes with limited administrative operating cost.
As of January 2009 NfN has 36 paying members.
The the annual membership subscription in 2009 is NOK 9 000,- (Appr. Euros 1000,-)

Service Providers are not admitted as members, due to the "open figures" policy in the benchmarking activities between members.

Member of EuroFM

NfN is a member of EuroFM and has an ambition to contribute actively to the development of closer European relations particularly with the Nordic members in EuroFM.

Member of Nordic FM

NfN is also member of a Nordic FM project which was initiated in 2003. In 2008 Nordic FM counts 8 national organizations representing corporate business, professional bodies and and university level education and research from all the 5 Nordic countries.
The Nordic Industrial Fund (Nordic Innovation) provided the economical basis to get the project "off the ground" in 2003, financing close to 50% of a total budget of about NOK 5 million (appr. 600 000,- Euros) until June 2006.
Since then the activities in Nordic FM have carried on and are now financed by subscriptions by the member organizations.
The Secretariat functions are in 2009 provided by the Swedish NordicFM member AFF.

Nordic FM priorities were from the start given to the following objectives :

Development of a common Nordic framework for standardization within FM.

Benchmarking activities between participants in the Nordic
Facility Management professional environment and marketplace.

Development of a framework and structure for education and qualification within FM on Bachelor and Master level.

Since 2006 there have been 5 ongoing projects - one for each member country:

NfN Board 2010

The Board Members were elected on the Annual Meeting 18. March 2010

Chairman and Deputy chairman

The Board elects the Chairman from the Board Members on the first Board Meeeting after the Annual Meeting.
This constitution meeting was held on 13. April.
Arne Kvale, Oslo University Hospital had asked to step down after being chairman 9 years. Likewise Marit Liverud, Norges Bank (The National Bank of Norway) wanted to be replaced after many years as Deputy.

New Chairman is Morten Bendiksen, Tech. Director Ahus (hospital) and new deputy is Wenche Dahl, Property Director Handelshøyskolen BI (BI - Norwegian School of Management).

The full Board

Morten Bendiksen, Akershus Universitetssykehus - Ahus
Wenche Dahl, Handelshøyskolen BI
Arne Gilje, Statoil
Arne Kvale, Oslo Universitetssykehus,(hospital)
Marit Liverud, Norges Bank (The National Bank of Norway)
Kjersti Nordtveit, NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corp)

Administrative support

Although the Board is a typical "Working Board" and as a team takes an active part part in planning and execution of the network activities, the basic administrative support and services are provided by external resources, most of whom have at an earlier stage in their career been ordinary NfN members.

The majority of the NfN members have over the last years experienced increasingly organizational slimming and heavier workload on a reduced number of professionals. This has effected negatively the ability of devoting enough time to professional networking activities which are still considered mandatory for as well the individual professional development as for the organization as a whole.
NfN has decided to compensate for this shortcoming by increasing the admin support to Benchmarking activities and to the activities in the other Professional Work Groups (PWG).
